Burris, Crawfords, Foamcraft Greater Mitchell Chamber Of Commerce Award Winners

(MITCHELL) - Allen Burris, a lifetime resident of Mitchell and minister of Mitchell Church of Christ, was named the Citizen of the Year by the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce.

Burris has been active in hunger relief projects, Capstone Ministers (ReGeneration), the St. Vincent Dunn Hospital Ethics Committee and Help for Honduras.

The Volunteer of the Year was Warren and Susan Crawford. The Times Mail reports that their goal is to help others with the Bryantsville Hunger Relief Project which was started by Susan's late parents, Hollace and Ila Sherwood.The project involves sending high protein corn to famine-plagued parts of the world.

They also arranged for Bedford's two hospitals to donate two ambulances to be shipped to Honduras.

The Crawfords' volunteer efforts include the Bryantsville Hunger Relief Project, Capstone Ministries, Bertha's Mission, the Salvation Army, the ministerial associations of both Bedford and Mitchell and the ReGeneration store and its annual toy sale each December. Susan is also involved in the Mitchell's chapter of Tri Kappa.

The Crawfords have remained active supporters of youth in the Mitchell community, attending various ball games, sports events and school musicals.

Rob Elliott, from Foamcraft Inc., accepted the Business of the Year Award. He was accompanied by Foamcraft's Mike Rich, Becky Garriott, Joe Elliott and David Fisher.

Foamcraft has grown over the years, with highlights including a move to a new facility in 2009 and an increase from 36 to 57 full-time employees.
