(BLOOMINGTON) - The Bloomington Environmental Commission (EC) is pleased to announce the Fourth Annual Eco-Heroes Competition for youth in the Bloomington community. The theme of the 2015 Eco-Heroes Competition is “Doing My Share for Cleaner Air.”
Participation in the Eco-Heroes Competition is open to all public, private and homeschooled students in grades K - 12, who live in the city of Bloomington. Entries based on the theme, "Doing My Share for Cleaner Air," are welcomed in a wide range of formats, both written (e.g., stories, poems and essays up to 300 words) or artistic (e.g., terracycling, recordings, posters, photographs, sculpture, painting and craft projects). An award for first, second and third place will be presented for four grade groups: grades K - 2, 3 - 5, 6 - 8 and 9 - 12. Students are permitted to collaborate and may work in pairs, groups or as a class. All submissions received by the EC will be displayed at City Hall.
The Eco-Heroes competition will facilitate the development of environmentally conscious individuals, while rewarding youth for their creativity. In addition to the honor of being named an Environmental Hero, Mayor Kruzan will be presenting each winner with award prizes donated by local businesses during the recognition ceremony on Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 401 N. Morton St.
The Eco-Heroes Competition seeks to connect the natural curiosity of local students and the passion for the world around them through their creativity as artists, writers and craftspeople. The 2014 event was a great success with more than 110 outstanding and diverse submissions from rap songs and handmade books to posters and stone carvings.
All entries should be submitted to the City's Planning and Transportation Department located in City Hall, 401 N. Morton St., Ste. 130, by Friday, April 10. Text or digital files may also be emailed to David Cohen at cohend@bloomington.in.gov. Submissions must include the student's name, grade, school (if applicable) and contact information, including telephone and email.
