(BLOOMFIELD) - Bloomfield IGA owner Larry Williams has announced the store will be closing its doors by the end of the month.

Williams, who purchased the store last May, says the business never reached the potential he believed was possible due to lack of sales and thus can't pay the bills.

The Greene County Daily News reports that Williams expected sales at the location to drop when he and his family took over last spring. But he also anticipated at some point things would take an upward turn, one that just didn't come to fruition.

Efforts have been and are continuing to be made to sell the business. But at the current time, Williams is unsure whether another retailer will attempt to reopen the store in the future.

As for closing out the store, Williams intends to begin selling stock at a 10 percent discount this week, with deeper discounts to come in the remaining weeks as warranted.

The store employed approximately 22 people, all of which were notified late last week of the decision to close. Williams said he has already sold out the deli and the fresh meat department will likely be closed by the end of the week.

He expects the remaining stock to be gone by the end of April.
