Bedford Boy Seriously Injured In Georgia Accident

Last updated on Friday, April 3, 2015

(MACON, GA.) - Last Saturday Bedford resident 5-year-old Lincoln Strauser was injured after a vehicle jumped the curb at a rest stop in Macon, Georgia.

Lincoln is the son of Joseph and Kristie Strauser, and has a sister named Liberty.

The family was on their way home from vacationing in Florida when the accident happened.

According to his father Joseph Strauser, Lincoln was pinned between the bumper and a concrete picnic table crushing the small boy.

"The driver of the vehicle, an elderly woman, claimed to have pressed the gas pedal thinking it was the brake," Joseph wrote in an email. "Lincoln was rushed to the Children's Hospital in Macon Georgia and is currently in the critical care unit where he remains in stable but guarded condition with several broken ribs and punctured and collapsed lungs."

According to Joseph, the vehicle hit three other people, a nurse who was thrown into the windshield of the car and Lincoln's grandfather Claude Ritchey and a third person who attempted to push Lincoln out of the way before being hit.

"All three are heroes," he added. "After the accident, the injured shook off their injuries and rushed to assist Lincoln. Ritchey was able to lift both the concrete table and the car away from Lincoln allowing the boy to be pulled from the space where he was trapped."
