(BLOOMINGTON) - According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 15 percent of Lawrence County adults have diabetes.

People living with diabetes are at risk for a number of complications, including loss of eyesight, nerve damage, heart disease, stroke and kidney disease.

The good news is these complications can be delayed or prevented through proper management. Learn more about managing the disease by attending the Dining with Diabetes series provided by the Purdue Extension office in Lawrence, Monroe and Owen counties.

Dining with Diabetes is a series of four classes in which participants will learn more about the disease, diabetes nutrition and can sample healthy recipes and learn cooking tips.

The program will be held on May 4, 11, 18 and 26 from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. at the Purdue Extension-Monroe County office at 3400 South Walnut Street in Bloomington.

The cost is $25 a person or $35 a couple.

Call the Purdue Extension-Monroe County office at (812) 349-2575 for more information or to register. Registrations are due by April 27.
