Washington Man Arrested On OWI Charges, Fighting With Police

(WASHINGTON) - A Washington man was arrested Saturday night on half a dozen charges following a traffic stop in Washington.

Around 10:15 p.m. Indiana State trooper Mitch Wier stopped a pickup truck on Meridian Street for speeding.

While speaking to the driver, 30-year-old Dustin Fuguay, the trooper detected an odor of alcohol and that Fuguay showed signs of being intoxicated.

After failing field sobriety test, the trooper attempted to place Fuguay in handcuffs and that is when he began pushing the trooper and other officers that had arrived on the scene. Officers were able to get Fuguay handcuffed and in the back of a police car. After being placed in the car, Fuguay was able to get his handcuffed wrist from behind his back to the front. Officers took Fuguay from the car to re-handcuff him behind his back. He continued to resist officers using his shoulders and elbow to strike officers and Fuquay continued to forcibly resist, using his shoulders and elbows to strike officers, and at one point attempted to spit one of them.

Fuquay was taken to Daviess Community Hospital for blood alcohol tests. Fuguay had a blood-alcohol content of .190 percent and had also smoked synthetic marijuana.

Fuguay was taken to the Daviess County Jail on felony charges of battery and intimidation on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement, operating a vehicle with intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .15 or higher, OWI endangerment and disorderly conduct.
