(SEYMOUR) - Two Seymour residents pleaded guilty to welfare fraud Thursday in separate cases involving their collection of thousands of dollars in unemployment benefits while they held jobs.
Both 31-year-old Casey N. McCoy and 41-year-old Billy Eugene Douglas entered those pleas to the Class C felony charge in Jackson Circuit Court in Brownstown.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the Indiana Department of WorkForce Development (DWD) received information that McCoy had been getting unemployment benefits while working at Aisin USA in 2011 and 2012.
McCoy continued to file for and receive unemployment benefits during her employment with Aisin.The benefits totaled $16,264.
According to police, with penalties assessed by DWD, McCoy owes the state of Indiana $22,654.25.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, 42-year-old Billy E. Douglas, was working for a masonry company in Jackson County but also filed for and received unemployment benefits between December 2010 and April 2013. The benefits totaled $16,220.
With penalties assessed by the Indiana Department of WorkForce Development (DWD), Douglas owes the state of Indiana $24,542.
