(GREENE CO.) - Three adults were airlifted and three children transported to the hospital with injuries suffered in a head-on collision Friday afternoon in eastern Greene County that stopped traffic for nearly two hours on State Road 45.

According to an Indiana State Police report, police were contacted about the crash just before 2 p.m.

72-year-old Katherine T. Woods of Indianapolis was traveling south on State Road 45 north of East Johnson Lane in a 2010 GMC SUV when she traveled left of the center line and struck a 2004 Pontiac SUV head-on driven by 49-year-old Aaron J. Lockerman of Indianapolis.

He suffered severe injuries to his left leg, along with internal injuries and was flown to Eskenazi Hospital in Indiana. Lockerman had two passengers in his vehicle 24-year-old Brittany Byers of Bloomington and her 10-month-old son.

Brittany, who is pregnant, complained of pain to the back and stomach area and was taken by helicopter to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

Connor had bruising to his right shoulder and was transported by ambulance to Bloomington Hospital.

Woods suffered lacerations and fractures of her lower left leg and neck. She also had two passengers, a 6-year-old and 9-year-old. Both were taken to Bloomington Hospital for treatment of abrasions and bruises.

Both vehicles were totaled.

According to Trooper Nash's report, there were no skid marks on the roadway and the only marks on the pavement were gauge marks at the point of impact and that of the Pontiac being knocked back off the east side of the roadway.

Trooper Nash reported that seat belts were not being used in Lockerman's vehicle, other than the child restraint. It was unknown whether seat belts were being used in the Woods vehicle.

Personnel from the Greene County Sheriff's Department, Eastern Greene Fire Department, Center Township Fire Department, Van Buren Fire Department, and Greene County Ambulance Service all assisted on the scene, in addition to AirEvac medical helicopters.
