(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man suffered serious injuries early Saturday morning.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 47-year-old Gregory Guthrie was traveling south on Tunnelton Road when he drove his 1993 Chevrolet pickup off the south side of the road and struck a stone wall, then travelled about 138 feet, struck a utility pole, spun around and went off the north side of the road about 78 feet and then rolled onto its top.

Guthrie was pinned inside the truck.

Firefighters from the Bedford Fire Department extrication unit and Shawswick Volunteer Firefighters freed Guthrie from the vehicle.

Guthrie who suffered head, neck and possible internal injuries was taken by an IU Health Hospital ambulance to the Virgil I. Grissom Airport, where he was then flown by a medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Police say Guthrie was possibly intoxicated and there was a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

Police were able to secure a search warrant to obtain a blood sample at the hospital. That sample was then sent for testing and those results are pending.
