Odon Toddler Killed After Being Struck By Car

(LOOGOOTEE) - A toddler was struck and killed on U.S. 231 north of Loogootee Saturday morning.

The Martin County Sheriff's Department reports the accident happened on U.S. 231 south of County Road 1050 North at 11:27 a.m.

According to a police report, 30-year-old Eric Strange of Loogootee was traveling north on U.S. 231 in a 2012 Toyota Camry when 17-month old Alliyia Curtis of Odon ran into the roadway.

Strange was unable to avoid striking the toddler.

The child was taken to Daviess Community Hospital in Washington where she died of her injuries.

The northbound lane of U.S. 231 was shut down for approximately three hours as a reconstructionist investigated the accident.

The investigating officer is Sergeant Keith Keller with the Martin County Sheriff's Department. He was assisted by ISP Troopers Scott Miller and Gaven Wilson, Daviess County Deputies Kevin Eaton, Adam Hunt, and Mark Bledsoe, the Loogootee Fire Department, the Odon Fire Department, Southwest Medical, Martin County EMS, G&M Wrecker Service, Daviess County Coroner's Office, and the Department of Child Services.
