Last updated on Friday, March 20, 2015

(MITCHELL) - Zach Furbee will receive $1,000 at the Indiana American Legion Spring Conference in Indianapolis in April.

Furbee, a 10th grader at Mitchell High School, along with 12th graders Tad Canada and Andrea Perry, 11th grader Anna Kluender and 10th grader Victoria Johnson took an exam on their knowledge of Americanism and government last November. American Legion Post 250 sponsored the event.

Those results were sent to the 9th District of the American Legion and the tests were judged again and three Mitchell High School students won at the district level in February. The winners were Furbee, Kluender and Johnson. Each winner received $100.

Those winners then advanced to the state level and Furbee was selected as the 10th grade boy state winner earning him $1,000.
