Last updated on Monday, March 30, 2015

(MITCHELL) - Mitchell City Council passed two ordinances to update the sewage treatment facility.

One ordinance will propose a 45 percent rate hike on the sewage rate.

The other ordinance was for a bond issue, not to exceed $3 million to pay for the upgrades. The bond issue for the loan is to initially pay for the construction. The money will be funded through a revolving loan program through the state at an interest of two percent. The debt will be repaid by January of 2036.

All of the council except Joey Slone voted in favor of the ordinances.

Slone says he had talked to several community members were were against rate increase.

Construction on the upgrades is scheduled to begin in May and be completed by June of 2016.
