(BLOOMINGTON) - LJ Gearhhart, Ivy Tech student and general manager at the Mcdonald’s in Bloomington, has received the “Student of the Year” award from the American Council on Education.
This is only the second time ACE has bestowed the national honor on a Hoosier.
Gearhart has been working for McDonalds for 8 years and worked his way up to general manager while still being a full-time student at Ivy Tech.
He will graduate in May with an associates degree in business.
ACE spokeswoman Deborah Seymour says Gearhart does a good job balancing the demands of family and professional responsibilities as he works to gain his degree.
"His ability to inspire others to also set high postsecondary achievement goals is another example of how he exemplifies the qualities we seek in ACE's Student of the Year," Seymour added.
Along with the award, Gearhart will receive a $500 scholarship.
