(PAOLI) - It's in the headlines nearly every day: a child experiencing some sort of trauma.

Whether it be violence, abuse, a car crash or bullying, trauma can change young lives forever. Trauma also changes the ways in which adults must approach children in order to form positive relationships.

Children who have experienced life-altering violence need impactful intervention to maintain a course of healthy development. Many times, intervention may come from a youth worker, mentor or other caring adult in a child's life. That's why the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting a workshop to help prepare those adults to see the world how children affected by trauma see it.

Robin Donaldson with the Indiana Youth Services Association will help participants learn the effects of traumatic situations on young people's minds, development and behavior. Donaldson will walk youth workers through the changes that occur to children after experiencing trauma and offer tools and training needed to be able to build relationships to improve children's lives.

The forum will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at Super Burger, 600 W. Main Street in Paoli, 47454.

As part of IYI's Youth Worker Cafe program, the forum and lunch are free, but reservations are required. Please RSVP by Wednesday, March 11 via this link or by contacting IYI Statewide Outreach Manager Debbie Jones at djones@iyi.org.

Youth Worker Cafes are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit children. This Youth Worker Cafe is sponsored by Indiana University Health and supported by collaborative efforts of IYI.

For more information on the Youth Worker Cafe, contact IYI Southwest Indiana Outreach Manager Joe Shrode at jshrode@iyi.org.
