Fire Causes Extensive Damage At TJ Williams Body Shop

Last updated on Thursday, March 5, 2015

(MITCHELL) - Firefighters battled a snowstorm Wednesday afternoon along with a blaze that destroyed TJ Williams Body Shop on Ind. 37.

According to Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jason Zeeks, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No one was working at the shop, owned by Tim Williams, when the fire was reported at 5:41 p.m. The shop had closed at 5 p.m.

When firefighters from Marion, Huron and Shawswick arrived flames were shooting out of the building.

Firefighters, who battled the blaze for about 4 hours, were able to contain the blaze to the main body shop after an hour, but it caused extensive damage.

The heat and flames were intense because of all of the flammable items used in the shop.

LCPD officers assisted with controlling traffic in the area and closed one lane of Ind. 37 while firefighters battled the blaze. Police say traffic was slow because of the snowstorm.
