(DAVIESS CO.) - Daviess County investigators are heading to Alabama this week to gather more evidence in connection with the murder of an Odon man last month.

33-year-old Travis Woodruff, died of a shotgun blast outside of his home on Edwards Lane in Odon on February 17. ght. According to an autopsy report Woodruff died from a shotgun wound.

Police say Woodruff had been standing in front of a glass door when the shot went through the door and struck him. He then fell outside of the home where his body was later discovered.

Police then began looking for 40-year-old Jeffery Dyer, of Odon. On Feb. 18, Dyer shot himself along I-10 near Mobile, Alabama. Police were attempting to stop Dyer, who was a person of interest in Woodruff's murder.

The coroner in Alabama ruled Dyer's death as a suicide after he shot himself with a shotgun.

A Daviess County detective and crime scene technician are headed to Baldwin County, Alabama to meet with officers there involved in the stop and to collect evidence recovered in Dyer's pickup truck including the shotgun Dyer allegedly used to kill Woodruff and then himself.

"When they return they will review all of the evidence from both here and that found in Alabama," says Daviess County Sheriff Jerry Harbstriet. "Once that is done, they will meet with the prosecutor and the coroner for another review. Once all that is done, we will be a step closer to closing this case."
