(MITCHELL) - Computers will soon replace textbooks in grades 6 through 12 in Mitchell Community Schools.
The Times-Mail reports that the "One Student/One Computer Project" will begin the 2016-17 school year.
Assistant Superintendent Phil Storm and Sam Klawitter; who is with Kinetic Networking, a Paoli firm that provides information technology services for Mitchell schools; says the program will develop college and career-ready students with 21st-century skill sets. Advanced Placement coursework can be delivered online, as well and provide home-based education services. The online curriculum can also be updated four times a year, instead of replacing text books every six years.
Superintendent Steve Phillips says the student eventually will come to own the device he or she is using.
Once the program is established in the upper grade levels, the focus will be to extend the technology to the lower grade levels.
