(ILLINOIS) - A Washington woman was killed in a fatal accident in Lawrence County, Illinois on Thursday.
Illinois State Police say the accident happened around 1:30 p.m. near Kelly's Lake Road on U.S. 50
36-year-old Shane Sexton of Wheeler, Michigan was traveling westbound on U.S. 50, just east of Illinois Route 1, when he swerved his van into the eastbound lane and collided with another car head on.
The driver of the other vehicle, 21-year-old Amber Tedrow of Washington, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say Tedrow was not wearing a seat belt during the incident.
Sexton was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital.
Police cited Sexton for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and crossing the center line.
