Washington May Not Hold Primary Election

Last updated on Tuesday, February 17, 2015

(WASHINGTON) - It appears there may not be a primary election in Washington.

There are no contested races on the municipal ballot and Daviess County Clerk Janice Williams told the Washington Times Herald the chances of having a primary are not good.

Williams will meet with the election board on February 23 to make the determination.

The deadline to file for candidacy on the May ballot was last week.

On the Republican side, Incumbent Mayor Joe Wellman and councilmen Allen Brown, Mike Singleton, Jerry Sidebottom, and Jason Petty are seeking re-election to their seats. Grant Stafford is also on the ballot in the council at large race and Sierra Deckard for Council Disrict 5. Beth McGookey is running for city clerk.

For the Democrats, current Councilmen Blake Chambers and Joe Fleck are running again. Bill Walton is also on the ballot running for council at large.
