Sheriff Departments Opening Lobby And Parking Lots For Exchanges And Transactions

Last updated on Wednesday, February 18, 2015

(PAOLI) - The Indiana Sheriff’s Association is asking all sheriff departments to allow residents to meet at departments for transactions set up through websites, like Craigslist.

Orange County Sheriff Josh Babcock says the department for years has offered their lobby and parking lot to residents meeting for child custody exchanges and he saw no problem with having the department available for residents for these types of transactions.

Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham is hoping to provide the same service to residents.

He is currently in the process of clearing the parking lot to the north of the jail and installing new security cameras.

The Sheriff's Association says there are several departments in the state participating and to find out if yours does give them a call on their non-emergency phone number or visit the department's website or Facebook pages.
