(NORTH VERNON) - A Seymour man was killed and two North Vernon residents were injured after a head-on collision on US 50 near CR 240 W.

According to Indiana State Police Trooper Matt Holley, around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, a two vehicle head-on collision occurred between a gray 2009 Toyota SUV and a red 1998 Chevy truck on US 50 near County Road 240 West.

According to an Indiana State police report, 25-year-old Michael Healy of Seymour was traveling west on U.S. 50 when for an unknown reason he crossed the center line and into the east lane where his vehicle struck a 1998 Chevrolet truck head-on.

The SUV was lifted into the air and landed on top of the truck entrapping the occupants of both vehicles. Another motorist told police they saw Healy passing several vehicles moments before the crash. Healy was taken to Jennings Hospital where he later died.

The driver of the Chevy truck, 61-year-old Steven Luedeman of North Vernon, was flown to University of Louisville Hospital. A passenger in Luedeman's truck, 17-year-old Shacey Root of North Vernon, was flown to University of Louisville Hospital. Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

ISP Trooper Matt Holley and Trooper Brent Lykins are investigating this crash. They were assisted at the scene by Jennings County Sheriff Department, Jennings County EMS and Vernon Township Fire Department.
