Not First Time Gehl Used Gun

Last updated on Wednesday, February 11, 2015

(PAOLI) - During a domestic fight Tuesday night, Jeremy Gehl seriously injured his wife and shot two children, killing one before fatally shooting himself.

But this is not the first time Gehl has been involved in a shooting death.

In May 2013, Indiana State Police were called to a trailer on Harding Street in Orleans where they found 38-year-old Billy Joe Beldsoe dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Orange County Prosecutor Kelly Minton ruled that Jeremy Gehl was justified in using deadly force against Bledsoe.

Gehl told police he shot Bledsoe to protect his brother Herman Gehl II.

At the time of the shooting officers say "preliminary indications are those two men acted in self defense when confronted by Bledsoe who was armed with a shotgun."

Herman Gehl II, son of Paoli Assistant Police Chief Herman Gehl, was arrested on two counts of invasion of privacy.

Gehl II had went to Bledsoe's mobile home in search of his son when Bledsoe allegedly came out of the mobile home with a shotgun pointed at him; Jeremey Gehl, a Marine veteran, shot Bledsoe in self defense.
