(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man was arrested after he allegedly hit his grandfather.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Mike Branham, officers went to a home in the 6000 block of State Road 60 West at 12:20 p.m. Friday after dispatchers received multiple 911 calls with the caller hanging up.

"But before the call could disconnect the dispatchers could hear what they believed was fighting in the background," Branham said.

When police arrived the victim told police their grandson 19-year-old Cody Powell was angry because he was told he could not use the victim's car.

The victim told police that Powell had threatened and struck him several time and had tore the phone from the wall when the victim attempted to dial 911.

Cody Powell was arrested on charges of battery causing bodily injury, interfering with a 911 call, and intimidation.
