Man Suffers Injuries After Crashing Vehicle Into Tree

(BEDFORD) - A Paoli man was injured after he crashed his 1998 Chevrolet Malibu into a tree Monday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 19-year-old Malachi Gehl was traveling south on Hickory Grove Road when for an unknown reason he drove across the northbound lane and then went off the eastside of the road. The vehicle struck a tree and then came to rest against that tree.

Gehl was trapped inside the Malibu and was freed by Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department first responders.

Gehl was not wearing a seat belt and suffered a head fracture during the incident. He was taken to IU Health Hospital and then transferred to Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Assisting at the scene was an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department.
