Man Arrested On Child Molesting Charges

Last updated on Tuesday, February 17, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man who was arrested earlier this month on a child solicitation charge is now facing child molesting charges.

35-year-old Dustin Mills was first arrested after Lawrence County police were notified on Christmas Eve that the grandmother of one of his victims found sexually explicit messages and photographs on her granddaughter's cell phone. He was arrested on January 1 on charges of dissemination of matter harmful to minors. He posted a $755 cash bond on January 12 and was released from jail

On Friday he was charged with three counts of molesting a 12-year-old girl and sent back to jail.

The new charges stem from Facebook conversations between Mills and the girl. Police say that, three times a week, the girl would visit a home where Mills lived.

According to a probable cause affidavit, those messages suggest Mills and the girl had engaged in sexual relations.

When police asked the victim about the sexual relationship with Mills she denied them, but on February 3 the girl told a Department of Child Services caseworker Mills had touched her on her butt, but wouldn't talk about anything else that happened.

Police had a forensic examination done on the phone recovering the full Facebook conversation between Mills and the girl and that is when police discovered an inappropriate photo of the girl that was sent during that conversation.

Then on February 9, police again spoke to the girl who told police that part of the Facebook conversation "was fantasy." She also told police that Mills had done sexual things to her including oral sex.

She told police she felt uncomfortable with Mills doing the sex act and asked him to stop.

Mills is being held at the Lawrence County Jail on a $200,000 surety, or $20,005 cash.
