(LAWRENCE CO.) - If you are traveling today, police say to use caution.

Indiana Department of Transportation has highways through Lawrence County Listed as "driving conditions are difficult."

Lawrence County is currently listed violet on the TrafficWise map at http://indot.carsprogram.org. Violet means travel is difficult or hazardous, speed is reduced due to snow and/or ice covered pavement.

Bedford Police say the highways and roadways around Lawrence County are snow and ice covered due to sleet and accumulating snow and expect snow and sleet to continue to accumulate well into Saturday.

If motorists must get out, police say to use these tips:

  • Make sure to give snowplows plenty of room to work.
  • Don't tailgate, try not to pass, keep your distance, watch for stops/turns and slow down.
  • During winter weather watch your speed & distance and make sure to brake correctly and be aware what's going on well ahead of you.
