(BROWN CO.) - Kurt Altmann lost his class ring 22 years ago when it slipped from his finger at a Nashville lumber yard. He never thought he’d see the ring again.
But that changed when a Brown County family went on a search to find the owner.
Many years ago, a then 9-year-old boy found the ring in the True Value lumber yard and gave it his mother Beth Hamm.
Hamm, who is legally blind, put the ring in a drawer and forgot about it.
She recently found the ring and asked her husband to help her search for the owner.
They tracked Altmann, to Chicago where he now lives and mailed him the ring.
"That's one amazing thing about it, that she went through with the effort; she didn't pawn the ring off or sold it. It was silver," Altmann said. "She was just a kind-hearted person who just wanted to make sure I got a piece of my life, of high school back. That was totally awesome that she did that."
Altmann says the ring is in pristine condition, just like it was during his senior year at Thorntown High School in Illinois.
