(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Fill the Pool Committee has raised $171,857.18 to go towards the rebuilding of the Bloomfield Public Pool. They need to raise approximately $550,000 in order to complete the project.
Chelsey Bough, of the Greene County Daily World reports last year, the committee did a variety of fundraisers including participating in the Bloomfield Town Yard Sale and Farmers Market, holding activities in the park, hosting a Super Hero 5K Fun Run, and much more.
Committee Member Kris Jarman says she would like to see most of these fundraisers being done again this year.
Flyers were distributed among the members to be placed around the county to increase publicity. A new "Fill the Pool" Banner was also made.

Committee Member Sophie Haywood announced that a meeting will take place on March 9 at 1 p.m. in the Greene County General Hospital Conference Room to discuss the addition of a YMCA to the county.
Greg Jones, Executive Director of Southern Indiana Development Commission, was also present at the meeting to discuss Parks and Recreation issues in Bloomfield. He presented an Analysis and Action Plan that focused on the improvements that could be made to improve the parks and recreations in the area.
According to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), the national average of park space in 2013 was 9.1 acres per 1,000 people. Based on the national median, the town of Bloomfield is approximately 16.2 acres short of park space. Jones mentioned that Greene County as a whole had a very surplus amount of parks and recreation space; However, the Bloomfield area is still underdeveloped.
Jones' plan included a list of things that should be done to improve these problems. His list was separated into different time frames with short term and long term goals. After reviewing this list, it was discovered that Bloomfield was already working on several of the issues including the addition of a YMCA facility and updating the PA system in the park.
Jones also revealed the results from a survey the company conducted to get to know the area better. According to the survey, 50% of people in the Bloomfield area travel over three miles to do their recreation. Ninety percent said the town of Bloomfield did not have enough parks and 86% would use a public pool if one was brought to the area.
When asked what they would like to see added to the community, a pool and splash pad came in for the top two answers.
Jones also recommended that the Park Board meet with the Town Council to establish set issues each board was to work on.
The information Jones provided supported the addition of a pool to the town of Bloomfield; However, he also encouraged the Fill the Pool members to want to do even more for the community.
"The pool is just one piece of the puzzle," said Haywood.
The Fill the Pool Committee will hold their next meeting on April 7 at 6:30 p.m. The location for the meeting will be announced at a later time.
