(BEDFORD) - A Bedford Police officer slid his police vehicle off the side of the road on the ice-covered roads Wednesday night.

According to a Bedford Police report, 42-year-old Danny Irwin was traveling east on Sand Pit Road approaching Rockwood Drive and was attempting to drive the department's 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe up a hill when he had to slow for another vehicle in front of him.

The vehicle began to slide out of control backwards and slide off the north side of the roadway on top of the guard rail.

The police vehicle had damage to both the back and front passenger side from striking the guard rail.

Irwin was not injured during the incident.
