Last updated on Tuesday, February 24, 2015

(ORLEANS) - AT&T announced a $15,000 AT&T Aspire contribution to Hoosier Hills PACT that will help prepare students for future success.

In addition, the company announced AT&T has expanded its network with the nation's strongest LTE signal2 to Orleans and Paoli, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network technology on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network.3

AT&T Indiana Director of External Affairs Pepper Mulherin made the announcement at Orleans Jr. Sr. High school , joined by State Sen. Erin Houchin and Hoosier Hills PACT Youth Services Supervisor Tara Carlisle.

Carlisle explained that AT&T's contribution to Hoosier Hills PACT will go toward the evidence-based "Road to Success" curriculum. All grade ten students in Orange County will participate in programming that assists them in exploring who they are and what they stand for, responsibility and leadership, building positive relationships, setting goals, improving academic grades and mapping out their future. Each of the Road to Success lessons has both a written and hands-on activity to create an interactive learning experience, and with this curriculum, young people are empowered and prepared for future success by exploring topics such as character value identification, career exploration and plans, personal assessments, job readiness skills, academic skills and academic goal setting.

"All of the elements of this program point to creating a viable and adaptive workforce that is prepared to face the changing needs of employers and customers," Houchin said. "It's a pleasure to celebrate AT&T's support of Hoosier Hills PACT."

"Setting students up for success later in life continues to be one of my top priorities, which requires teamwork and strong partnerships to achieve," said Rep. Steve Davisson. "Through AT&T's commitment, more students will have access to the 'Road to Success' curriculum, and I applaud them for making this investment in our community and future of our students."

Among the most significant corporate educational initiatives in the U.S., AT&T Aspire has already impacted more than one million students across all 50 states since the program launched in 2008.

"Education is the best investment we can make to ensure our new hires start day one with the skills they need," Mulherin said. "Through AT&T Aspire, we're engaging our network, mobile and cloud technologies, our employees and our partners to make a transformational impact on learning."

AT&T launched 4G LTE in Jasper in Jan. 2014, and the expanded coverage announced today is part of its ongoing rollout across the area.

"We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Orleans and Paoli responds to what customers want from their mobile experience -- more, fast speeds, reliability, on the best devices," said Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana. AT&T's 4G Network This expansion is part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP), a multi-year plan to invest for growth, announced in Fall 2012. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers' growing desire for high-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-based services. As part of Project VIP, AT&T is deploying small cell technology, macro cells and additional Distributed Antenna Systems, which will increase the density of our wireless network. The wireless network densification will further improve network quality and increase spectrum efficiency. AT&T's innovation and investment have resulted in a nationwide 4G network with ultra-fast speeds and a consistent user experience. AT&T's focus to deliver the best possible mobile Internet experience goes beyond 4G to embrace additional connection technologies. AT&T operates more than 34,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers, and provides access to more than 1 million globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans. **** AT&T also is a leading developer of Distributed Antenna Systems, which utilize multiple small antennas to maximize coverage and speed within stadiums, convention centers, office buildings, hotels and other areas where traditional coverage methods are challenging. Over the past six years (2008 to 2013), AT&T invested more than $140 billion into its wireless and wireline networks, when you combine capital investment and acquisitions of spectrum and wireless operations. Since 2008, AT&T has invested more capital into the U.S. economy than any other public company. In a September 2014 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. "Investment Heroes," a ranking AT&T has achieved for the third straight year.
