(DALE) - An accident Thursday night just north of Dale claimed the life of a driver.
Indiana State troopers were called to a crash around 7:18 p.m. on U.S. 231, just north of County Road 2250 North. When officers arrived they found a 1994 Subaru Legacy had stopped along the southbound shoulder of U.S. 231. The driver of the Subaru had attempted to pull back into traffic crossed the southbound lanes of U.S. 231 into the path of a southbound 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, driven by 66-year-old David Wolfkiel of Owensboro, KY.
Wolfkiel attempted to change from the driving lane to the passing lane, but was unable to avoid the crash, striking the Subaru at a right angle and pushing it into the median.
The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. Wolfkiel complaint of leg pain and was treated at the scene and released.
The name of the deceased is being withheld until family is notified.
Indiana State Police were assisted at the scene by the Spencer County Sheriff's Department, Dale and Santa Claus Police Departments, Carter Township Fire Department, Spencer County EMS and Coroner.
