Bloomington Man Arrested After Choking And Hitting Girlfriend

Last updated on Tuesday, February 24, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend in the parking garage at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

According to a Bloomington Police report, officers arrested 40-year-old Daymon Stewart on charges of strangulation and battery.

Police say Stewart was at the hospital with his 19-year-old girlfriend who had been treated at the hospital for a medical issue.

While the woman was being treated, Stewart confronted the woman about her going on a date with another man during a break in their relationship. Stewart got angry and left the hospital.

The woman followed him to the parking garage and that is when Stewart allegedly pushed the woman to the floor and began strangling her.

He let her up, but then pushed her up against a concrete wall and again strangled her, restricting her air flow.

She was able to get away and went back into the hospital to seek help and treatment.

Police arrived and Stewart admitted to grabbing the woman's shirt to "calm her down" but denied choking her.

Police reviewed the hospital's surveillance video and Stewart was arrested.
