Last updated on Monday, January 19, 2015

(SEYMOUR) - 76-year-old Walter Hurtt of Seymour was killed in a logging accident Friday morning on the southeast side of Seymour.

According to police, Hurtt and 58-year-old Mike Black of Jennings County were helping clear a wooded area in the 4200 block of County Road 975 East. The men were cutting a tree and, as it started to fall, the top of the tree caught on some other trees that were still standing causing Hurtt to be injured.

Jackson County Coroner Roger Wheeler says Hurtt died of massive chest injuries at the scene.
