Seymour Church Vandalized

Last updated on Tuesday, January 6, 2015

(SEYMOUR) - A Seymour minister is praying for the thief who burglarized his church and stole around $40.

Pastor Rick Prather of Christ Covenant Church, on South Poplar Street, says his wife reported the missing cash to police at 8:01 a.m. Sunday after a member of the church noticed a broken window.

Police say the money was missing from an office drawer. A tithe and offering box in the sanctuary was also smashed, but church officials say they don't believe any money was in them. The thief also went through a jug used to raise money for mission work in the fellowship hall and all the drawers in the Sunday school room had been searched by the thief.

Police also found an open window on the church which the thief could have entered the building.

The crime did not stop the church from holding services Sunday which included prayers for the thief.

Police did gather fingerprint and DNA evidence, but have no suspects at this time.

If caught, the thief could face burglary and theft charges.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Seymour Police Department.
