(ORANGE CO,) - Orange County REMC would like to warn the public of a telephone fraud that is targeting members.
Several members have received calls from telephone number 800-489-7369 stating they had not paid electric bill, and were subject to disconnection. Members were then asked to make a payment immediately. Please be advised this is a scam.
Orange County REMC's automated notification system calls members concerning prior balances, prepay accounts, planned outages and other possible situations where members need to be notified within a short period of time. Members are asked to verify they are the account holder then may then proceed to make a payment if desired.
Orange County REMC recommends anyone who has given credit or debit card information to contact his or her financial institution immediately to cancel the payment.
