Mandatory 10-Digit Dialing In 812 Area Code Begins Feb. 7

Last updated on Friday, January 9, 2015

(UNDATED) - The mandatory 10-digit dialing in the 812 area code will begin February 7th.

The change is meant to help customers transition to the addition of the 930 area code in southern Indiana, which begins March 7th.

The 930 area code is being added through the "overlay" method.

An overlay is the addition of another area code to the same geographic area as an existing area code.

You won't have to change your existing area code or telephone number, but it does require you to dial the area code and the seven-digit number for all calls.

Because more than one area code will serve the same geographic area, if you have an 812 or 930 telephone number, you will need to dial or enter the area code for all calls - including calls within the same area code.
