(UNDATED) - In June two Paoli residents were murdered and another man was seriously injured.
Indiana State Police arrested 48-year-old Elbert Edwards Brooks of New Albany, 36-year-old James Davidson of Marengo and 35-year-old John Carpenter on murder charges.
The men are accused of killing 56-year-old Nicholas Fields and 25-year-old Cory Michael Harris and seriously injuring 29-year-old Daniel Smitson.
Fields and Harris both suffered gunshot wounds to the head and died from their injuries. Smitson was shot in the mouth and was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.
The shootings were reported just after 1 p.m. in the 2200 block of Sandy Hook Road. Family members believe the shootings were drug related. Investigators, combing through tips and leads, were led to an apartment complex at 285 South Main Street in Marengo where Brooks was taken into custody without incident.
All three men are scheduled for trial in July 2015.
Father Fatally Stabs Son
60-year-old John Tow of Shoals was charged with murder after he fatally stabbed his son 32-year-old Jonathan Tow in the neck during a domestic fight.
Police rushed to the mobile home of John Tow in the 700 block of Doane Road after John dialed 911 and reported his son was bleeding to death. Rescue workers and police found Jonathan outside of the doorway. The father and son had been arguing all day.
John told police that he had retrieved a knife from inside his home and was going to use it to scare and/or intimidate his son. John told police he "sung his arms with the knife in his hands at Jonathan."
According to an autopsy report, the knife severed Jonathan's carotid artery. According to a forensic pathologist, the knife went into the victim's pharynx, and the blood loss would have been fatal within 30 seconds of the stabbing.
According to the autopsy report, the coroner believed more force was needed to cause the fatal stab wound other than swinging the knife.
Police say Tow's story did not match the autopsy finding or evidence police found at the scene. Tow was arrested and charged with his son's murder.
Tow was to stand trial in January, but defense attorney Dave Smith filed a motion of continuance, no new date has been set.
