Jasonville Woman Arrested After Stealing Appliances From Landlord

Last updated on Thursday, January 8, 2015

(JASONVILLE) - 30-year-old Karie I. Watters of Jasonville is accused of stealing a flat-top electric range, refrigerator and washer and dryer set from her landlord.

She was arrested on felony charges of theft.

The owner of the trailer court where Watters had lived called about the thefts after Watters moved out of the mobile home. However Watters claimed she had borrowed the stove and refrigerator from a friend and the washer and dryer from a cousin.

On Dec. 8 officers went to Watters' new place of residency and showed her photos of the appliances and then asked to enter her home to see if the appliances were there. Watters refused, but did agree to go to the police station for questioning. Another officer was able to confirm by looking in the windows that the appliances were in the home.

Once at the Jasonville Police Department Watters admitted, in a recorded interview, to taking the appliances from the Lyons residence as retaliation for being evicted. She also signed consent for the appliances to be recovered.

She was arrested on a warrant on Jan. 2.
