Last updated on Tuesday, January 13, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - An Indiana University student reported that she was raped in the Eignmann Residence Hall on Sunday.

The woman told IU Police that she had met the man over social media and the two agreed to meet in person.

Lt. Craig Munroe says after meeting the two began consuming alcohol.

"At some point the woman realized that something was going on without her consent and reported the incident," Munroe says. "This is currently an active investigation."

The male is described as a white male, 5-foot-9-inches, 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Munroe says a Crime Alert email was sent to students warning them to beware of predators using social media and using alcohol and or drugs to target potential victims. Students were warned to be aware of their surroundings and to speak up and call police if they see someone in trouble.

"We want students who are meeting people in social medial to make their first meeting in a public place," Munroe said. "Anytime you're meeting with someone you need to be careful."

Students were also given a description of the man that police are looking for.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Indiana University Police at (812) 855-4111.
