Blaze Ravages Village Deli In Bloomington

(BLOOMINGTON) - The roads were closed around Kirkwood Avenue between Lincoln and Dunn Streets are Bloomington Firefighters battled a blaze at The Village Deli shortly after noon on Sunday.

According to Bloomington Fire Battalion Chief Rick Betermichael, the fire began in the back of the restaurant.

There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is still unknown.

Diners rushed out of the Village Deli when billowing black smoke filled the establishment.

Adjacent businesses were temporarily closed while fire trucks and police cars blocked Grant Street and Kirkwood Avenue.

Village Deli owner Bob Costello says he isn't sure how the fire started, but called the fire department when he saw smoke was coming from the roof of the recycling area of the restaurant. He then began evacuating employees and customers from the restaurant.
