Bloomington Arts Commission Announces Release Of Public Art Master Plan

Last updated on Thursday, January 15, 2015

(BLOOMINGTON) - The City of Bloomington Arts Commission (BAC) announces the release of its Public Art Master Plan for the City of Bloomington.

The Public Art Master Plan articulates methods of engagement with public art for the city.

The Plan will identify shared civic values for the arts, objectives and aspirations for public art and priorities for public art investment, which are designed to positively impact the creation of bold, innovative and impactful works of public art in performance, visual, literary and design. BAC members conducted stakeholder interviews and community surveys as guidelines in the development of the Plan. Implementation of the Plan's recommendations will begin immediately in 2015 with the development of a pilot arts project within the business community, identification of specific priority areas for future public art, review of the Percentage for the Arts ordinance, analysis of existing grant programs' alignment with the master plan and the development of an annual "State-of-the-Arts Report."

The mission of the BAC is to cultivate a community in which residents appreciate the value of personal and collective artistic activity; to encourage collaboration and diversification of artistic activities, including participants from across the community; to enhance and support a high level of artistry and to support the economic vitality and interests of local artists and arts organizations.

The City of Bloomington Arts Commission's Public Art Master Plan is available for download on the BAC's website at http://bloomington.in.gov/bac.
