(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Board of Works voted to request a temporary right-of-way for the White River Port Authority and Perry Mullis properties concerning the Milwaukee Depot relocation/rehabilitation project.

The Times Mail reports that the temporary right-of-way is needed to comply with Indiana Department of Transportation rules to access the properties and a value must be related to that easement.

In order to move the depot, trenches must be dug around the depot building and it then needs to be jacked up to put equipment necessary to move the building underneath it.

Officials say that a couple of free-standing fuel tanks will have to be moved. Once the project is completed, the tanks will be returned to their original location.

Mayor Girgis says a third right-of-way from the Bedford Urban Enterprise Association is needed, but that organization has waived its added value clause. The owners of the other two properties can waive the added value if they so choose.

The city has a made an offer to purchase property owned by Tracy Fields at 14th and J streets for $145,000. That is where the depot will be moved. Fields has not responded to the offer so the city will file a condemnation complaint as part of eminent domain. The court will then set a price for the property.
