Bloomfield Man Arrested After Threatening Woman With Knife

Last updated on Friday, January 2, 2015

(BLOOMFIELD) - 33-year-old Anthony M. Franks of Bloomfield was arrested on two felony and two misdemeanor charges of battery after a fight on Christmas Eve.

Police found Franks' alleged victim had no shoes or jacket on. She told police that Franks had punched and choked her, pulled out some of her hair and had threatened to kill her. He also allegedly took her phone away so she was unable to call police.

She told police she was able to escape Franks and run for help.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the woman told police she thought Franks was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he arrived at his home at around 11:30 p.m. She says she went to bed around 2:30 a.m., but Franks came into the bedroom around 3:15 a.m. and asked her to pull his tooth.

The woman says that Franks became angry and started yelling at the woman and she told him to "just leave her alone."

The woman says that is when Franks allegedly punched her in the head about 10 times and pulled her hair and grabbed her by the throat, making it hard for her to breathe.

Franks then began throwing Christmas presents at her, left the room and came back with knives, threatening to kill her. He then stabbed one of the knives into the wall and told her that if she called the police, they would have a fight on their hands. The woman was then finally able to get out of the home and call for help.

Officers found the knife still sticking in the wall and signs of a struggle inside the home.

However, Franks told police there was no physical altercation, but police found a handful of the woman's hair at the scene along with several broken items in the home.

Franks was charged of intimidation with a deadly weapon, strangulation, battery resulting in bodily injury and interfering with reporting a crime.
