(BLOOMFIELD) - A Bloomfield man was arrested after he says a woman jumped on him, cutting him with her ring and that she shoved him first.

Police arrested 33-year-old Mark Johnson II on charges of domestic battery and domestic battery with a prior conviction.

According to police, officers were called to a home at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 after a woman reported Johnson had threatened to burn down her home and kill her.

When Greene County deputies arrived they determined that the couple had a verbal argument and told the couple to stop and leave.

The woman called deputies again just after 8 p.m. to report that Johnson had battered her and that he might be injured because she was defending herself.

A witness at the scene told police they heard a commotion at the other end of the home and when they investigated they found that Johnson had kicked a clock and some other items. They also saw Johnson take a swing at the woman, missing her but then grabbed her by the arms and was pushing her around.

The woman told police that Johnson just "went bananas", shoving her and throwing pills and water at her.

However Johnson told police that he was cowering in the corner of the bed room when the woman jumped on him and began hitting him, cutting him with her ring and that she had shoved him first.

But police saw no injuries to Johnson's hands or face.

Johnson was arrested and taken to the Greene County Jail.

Police determined that Johnson has four prior convictions for domestic battery, along with a few other convictions, for both violent and non-violent crimes.
