Last updated on Monday, January 12, 2015

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after he allegedly attacked a woman and choked her.

44-year-old Kenneth "Sonny" Turpin was booked into the Lawrence County jail Friday on a felony charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Bedford Police officers were called to the emergency room at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital on Jan. 1 after a woman was being treated for serious injuries.

The woman, who knows Turpin, told police that shortly before midnight on Jan. 1 she returned home after walking her dog near her home on 12th Street and that is when Turpin allegedly attacked her.

The woman told police that Turpin charged the woman and started punching her. He then allegedly choked the woman to the point she thought she was going to die.

She alleges that Turpin then threw her onto the concrete outside the backdoor of the home.

The woman waited until Turpin left the home and than contacted a relative for help.

According to court documents, the woman suffered severe bruising and swelling to both eyes and redness to her neck and throat. She also had bruises, scratches and swelling to her legs and both arms and her back. Her left ankle was also severely swollen.

Turpin has since posted a $2,005 cash bond and was released from jail.
