Bedford Housing Authority Accepting Applications, Apartments Open At Hauck House

Last updated on Thursday, January 8, 2015

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Housing Authority will be accepting applications for Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers through January 30th.

Prospective applicants must visit the BHA offices (located on the first floor of the Hauck House located at 1305 K Street/Bedford) in person to pick up an application.

Applications will not be given to third parties on behalf of someone and will not be mailed out.

A head of household must be able to secure utilities in his/her name to be eligible, and all residents of the assisted dwelling must pass a criminal background check. Once an application is processed and the applicant(s) are deemed eligible, the applicants(s) are expected to find their own dwelling; and any potential dwelling must pass the Housing Quality Standards (HQS) of HUD.

The Authority has a limited number of vouchers available, and preference will be granted to military veterans and those who have a source of household income.

Additionally, the BHA announces that it has a handful of apartments vacant at the Hauck House (1305 K Street). The Hauck House is a Senior High Rise targeted for Seniors, Elderly and Disabled. A fundamental requirement for tenancy is that residents must be self-sufficient in their abilities to care for themselves. The property is not an assisted-living facility.

During the months of January and February (or until all vacant units become occupied) the Authority is offering a move-in special by waiving the security deposit that normally is required of new tenants. Interested persons must visit the BHA offices to pick up an application.

Monthly rent in public housing is calculated based on household income and may not exceed 30 percent of a household's gross adjusted income.

Qualified applicants must be at least 50 years old, and preference will be granted to military veterans and those who have a source of household income.

Questions about federal housing assistance for each of these opportunities should be directed to the Bedford Housing Authority offices (812-279-2356).
