Bedford City Council Approves Zoning Change Along 16th Street

Last updated on Tuesday, January 20, 2015

(BEDFORD) - The Bedford City Council voted to change the zoning for some parcels along 16th Street for business use.

The Bedford Plan Commission initially approved the changes in December.

The property, owned by the estate of Farrell Robbins, at 1831 16th Street, is two parcels. - a vacant lot and the other includes a building that was used as a home sits that across from the former Thornton Memorial Boys Club building.

The zoning was changed from R-2 residential, to B-3 for business use.

A majority of the properties around the area are already zoned B-3 and all of the properties in the area are taxed at commercial rates because of their location, not because of their zoning designations.

There are no current plans for the property, but the family wanted the zoning changed in hopes to raise its value to match similar properties in the area.
