Woman Arrested After Attempting To Smuggle Cell Phone Into Prison

Last updated on Wednesday, December 10, 2014

(CARLISLE) - A Grant County woman trying to visit an offender at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) has been arrested on a trafficking charge.

22-year-old Elainey Michele Reynolds of Marion was not able to successfully clear a metal detector at the maximum-security facility shortly after 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Visitor processing custody staff became suspicious after Reynolds indicated a body piercing was the cause and going to the restroom to remove it. After claiming she threw the metal piercing away, the restroom was searched and a cell phone was found in a trash can.

After questioning by WVCF Correctional Police, Reynolds was placed under arrest and preliminarily charged with a Level 5 felony, attempting to trafficking with an inmate. She was then transported to the Sullivan County Jail with bond set at $15,000, ten percent allowed.

WVCF Superintendent Richard Brown said, "Anyone who tries to smuggle contraband into the facility can count on getting caught, arrested and prosecuted."

The name of the offender Reynolds planned to visit has not been released, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. The offender has been placed in a restrictive status housing unit.
