(SALEM) - According to the Youth Risk Behavior Survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 25 percent of Indiana high school children are bullied on school property.
In hopes of combating bullying, the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting two forums on how to break the cycle of aggression through education, prevention and intervention.
The forum will feature a representative from the IU School of Public Health. Participants will leave understanding the definition of bullying and be able to identify different types of bullying. The speaker will discuss how to identify the signs and symptoms of bullying behavior as well as how to discern if a child is a victim of bullying. Attendees will also develop strategies for addressing both sides of bullying violence.
The forum will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 18, at the Salem-Washington County Senior Center, 1707 N. Shelby St., Salem, 47167.
As part of IYI's Youth Worker Cafe program, the forums are free and lunch will be served, but reservations are required by noon on Dec. 16.
