(SWITZ CITY) - A crash near the Lighthouse Junction east of Switz City resulted in the death of a cement truck driver Tuesday.

The accident occurred at 11:55 a.m. on State Road 54 West, west of the State Road 57/US 231.

66-year-old Elvin Phillips of Pennville was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a Greene County Sheriff Department report, Phillips was driving a large commercial truck and trailer owned by TriGen Inc. out of Fishers and towing a separate pickup truck, east on State Road 54 when he left the southside of the road. The truck then crossed back over both lanes, hit a guardrail and overturned into a ditch on the northside of the roadway.

The highway was shut down for hours and traffic diverted to county roads while rescue personnel and officers worked on the scene.
